Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the Fieldwork platform at dofieldwork.io, operated by Locallabs Pty Ltd, Queensland, Australia. By creating an account, you agree to these terms.

The service

Fieldwork provides a qualitative research platform, including AI-assisted study design, automated interviewing via Sofi, and analysis tools. We offer a free tier and paid subscription plans (Growth and Scale).

We may update or change features over time. We will not remove core functionality from a paid plan during an active billing period without notice.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You must be 18 or older to create an account. You may not share accounts between individuals on plans that are billed per seat.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

Acceptable use

You may use Fieldwork for lawful research and business purposes. You may not:

  • Use the platform to collect data from minors without appropriate consent mechanisms
  • Use the platform to conduct research that violates applicable law or the ethical guidelines of your profession
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract underlying model weights or system prompts
  • Use the platform to generate, distribute, or store unlawful content
  • Circumvent rate limits, access controls, or billing restrictions

We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these terms.

Research data and your responsibilities

You are the data controller for any data you collect from research participants using the platform. You are responsible for:

  • Obtaining appropriate informed consent from participants
  • Complying with applicable data protection laws in your jurisdiction
  • Ensuring your use of the platform complies with your organisation's ethics and governance requirements

We process participant data on your behalf as a data processor. See our Privacy Policy for detail on how we handle that data.

AI-generated content

The platform uses AI to assist with study design, interview facilitation, and analysis. AI-generated content is provided for research assistance only. You are responsible for reviewing, validating, and taking accountability for any outputs you use or share.

We do not warrant that AI outputs are accurate, complete, or fit for any specific purpose.

Intellectual property

You retain ownership of all research data, study designs, and outputs you create on the platform.

We retain ownership of the platform, including Sofi, the underlying infrastructure, and all proprietary features. Your use of the platform does not grant you any rights to our intellectual property.

If you provide feedback or suggestions, you grant us a licence to use that feedback to improve the platform.

Billing and cancellation

Paid plans are billed monthly or annually in advance. All fees are in USD unless otherwise stated.

You may cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods.

If a payment fails, we will notify you and provide a grace period before downgrading your account.

We may change pricing with 30 days' notice. Price changes do not apply to the current billing period.

Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, if required by law, or if your account poses a risk to the platform or other users.

On termination, your access to the platform ends. Your data is handled according to our Privacy Policy retention schedule. You may request an export of your data within 30 days of termination by contacting joel@locallabs.dev.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Locallabs Pty Ltd is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Warranties

We provide the platform on an "as is" basis. We do not warrant uninterrupted availability or that the platform will be error-free. We will make reasonable efforts to maintain availability and notify you of planned downtime.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland.

For customers in the EU or UK, nothing in these terms limits your rights under applicable consumer protection or data protection law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will notify you by email at least 14 days before material changes take effect. Continued use of the platform after that date constitutes acceptance.
